Conversion runs entirely on your device. The conversion engine loads once from a CDN the first time you convert — an internet connection is needed for that first load only. Your photos are never uploaded anywhere.

How it works

1

Drop your HEIC photos

Drag in .heic or .heif files from your iPhone or Mac — up to 20 at a time. They stay on your device; nothing is uploaded to any server.

2

Pick JPG or PNG

Choose JPG for small, shareable files (adjustable quality) or PNG for lossless quality. Conversion starts automatically and runs one photo at a time on your device.

3

Download your photos

Preview each converted photo, download them individually, or grab everything at once with "Download all". Converted files keep the original filename.

How in-browser HEIC conversion works

iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) — roughly the same quality as JPG at about half the file size. Browsers cannot decode it natively, so the tool loads heic2any, an open-source WebAssembly decoder, once from a CDN. Each photo is decoded to a bitmap in memory, then re-encoded as JPG (at your chosen quality) or PNG. Your photos never leave the device; the only network request is the one-time decoder download.

Worked example

20 iPhone photos, 34 MB total as HEIC. Converted to JPG at 85% quality: 61 MB total, about 3 MB each — visually identical to the originals and openable everywhere, including Windows and older Android. The same 20 as PNG: 148 MB — far larger, worth it only if you plan to edit them further. A batch of 20 converts in roughly 90 seconds on a typical laptop.

Limitations

Live Photos convert as stills — the video portion is dropped. Burst stacks and portrait-mode depth data do not survive conversion. Very large panoramas (over ~100 MP) can hit browser memory limits; convert those one at a time. The decoder needs an internet connection on first use.

iPhone stills are only half the creator workflow — the clips matter too. Once the photos are converted, the Shorts Hook Generator writes the opening lines for the Shorts and Reels those photos support, from hooks formulas that stop thumbs.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I open HEIC photos on my computer?
HEIC is the modern, space-saving photo format iPhones use by default. Windows and many older apps don't include a HEIC decoder, so the photos won't open. Converting to JPG or PNG gives you files that work everywhere.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
Never. Decoding and conversion happen in JavaScript on your own device. The only network request is a one-time download of the open-source conversion engine from a CDN — your photos never leave your browser.
Should I choose JPG or PNG?
Choose JPG for sharing, uploading, or emailing — it's much smaller and looks identical at 85% quality. Choose PNG if you plan to edit the photo further, since it's lossless and won't degrade with repeated saves.
Why does the first conversion take longer?
The conversion engine (about 1–2 MB) downloads once from a CDN the first time you convert. After that it's cached by your browser, so later conversions start instantly — even the rest of the same batch.
What if a file fails to convert?
Most failures mean the file isn't actually a valid HEIC/HEIF photo (for example, a renamed JPG, or a corrupted download). Try opening it on the device that created it first, then convert again.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
At 85% quality or higher the difference is invisible in normal viewing. JPG is lossy by nature, so avoid repeatedly re-saving the same JPG — convert once from the HEIC original.
Can I convert Live Photos?
The still image converts normally; the short video clip does not. Export the video portion from the Photos app first if you need it.
Why are my converted files bigger than the originals?
HEIC is far more efficient than JPG — a HEIC at a given quality is roughly half the size of the equivalent JPG. Larger files are the trade-off for universal compatibility.
