How to Use the Age Calculator

Pick your date of birth from the calendar picker — or type it in YYYY-MM-DD format — and press Calculate Age. The tool instantly breaks your age into years, months and days, and fills a full statistics table: total months, weeks, days and hours lived, the weekday you were born on, your zodiac sign, and exactly how many days remain until your next birthday.

It is handy for more than birthdays: use it to check a child's exact age for school admission cut-offs, to verify you're 18 or older for a state ID or driver's license application, or to settle those family debates about who is older by how many days. Future dates are rejected, so the result always reflects completed time.

How Exact Age Is Calculated

The naive way — dividing total days by 365.25 — gets months and days wrong because real months are 28 to 31 days long and leap years add a day every four years. The correct method subtracts calendar-style: years first, then months, then days, borrowing from the previous month when the day count goes negative, exactly like manual subtraction.

Age = today's date − birth date, borrowing days from the real previous month

Leap years need no special handling with this approach because February simply has 29 days in leap years — the calendar does the work. That is why a person born on 29 February still gets a correct age in non-leap years: the borrowing logic counts the actual days that passed.

Worked Example

Date of birth 15 March 1995, calculated on 2 October 2026:

StepCalculationResult
1. Years2026 − 199531
2. MonthsOctober − March = 7, minus 1 borrowed for the days6
3. Days2 − 15 → borrow 30 days from September (2 + 30 − 15)17
4. Exact age—31 years, 6 months, 17 days
5. Total daysCalendar count incl. 8 leap days11,524 days
6. Born onWeekday of 15 Mar 1995Wednesday
7. Next birthday15 Mar 2027 − 2 Oct 2026in 164 days

Step 3 shows the borrowing in action: since the 2nd is earlier in the month than the 15th, we borrow September's 30 days (making 32) and reduce the month count by one — leaving 6 months and 17 days.

Your Age In Every Unit — Plus Zodiac

Most age calculators stop at years, months and days. Here is the full picture for our example — the "your age in" table plus the fun extras:

A quick zodiac reference for the curious: Aries (21 Mar–19 Apr), Taurus (20 Apr–20 May), Gemini (21 May–20 Jun), Cancer (21 Jun–22 Jul), Leo (23 Jul–22 Aug), Virgo (23 Aug–22 Sep), Libra (23 Sep–22 Oct), Scorpio (23 Oct–21 Nov), Sagittarius (22 Nov–21 Dec), Capricorn (22 Dec–19 Jan), Aquarius (20 Jan–18 Feb), Pisces (19 Feb–20 Mar). Strictly for entertainment — your driver's license cares about the years, not the stars.

Limitations

The calculator uses the proleptic Gregorian calendar, the standard civil calendar used worldwide — dates before 1582 are mathematically extended backwards and have no historical meaning. It measures completed days, so someone born late on 15 March and checked early on 2 October is counted the same as a full-day difference. Time zones are ignored (midnight-to-midnight local days), and the zodiac sign is traditional astrology with no scientific standing. For legal age thresholds, authorities count completed years on the calendar date — this tool matches that convention.

An exact age in years, months and days settles more than birthdays — it is the number behind school cut-offs, insurance forms and rental agreements. It pairs naturally with two privacy-and-paperwork habits: run the Social Privacy Checkup before you post the birthday photos, and work out the drive to the party with our road-trip fuel cost guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is exact age in years, months and days calculated?
Subtract the birth date from today's date, borrowing days from the previous month and months from the year when needed — the same way manual subtraction borrows. Leap years are handled automatically because the calculation uses real calendar months rather than assuming 30-day months.
Why does my age differ across calculators?
Cheap calculators divide total days by 365.25, which gives wrong months and days. Accurate calculators walk the calendar month by month, respecting each month's real length and leap years. This calculator uses the calendar method, so years, months and days are exact.
How do I find what day of the week I was born?
Enter your date of birth above — the result panel shows the weekday you were born on. The calculation uses the proleptic Gregorian calendar, the standard civil calendar used worldwide. The same panel also counts down the days remaining until your next birthday.
Can I calculate age for a future date?
No — a date of birth in the future is rejected with an error. The calculator measures completed time between your birth date and today, so the birth date must be today or earlier. That keeps every figure — years, months, days and totals — describing time that has genuinely passed.
What is my zodiac sign?
Western zodiac signs follow fixed date ranges — for example, Pisces runs February 19 to March 20 and Aries March 21 to April 19. This calculator shows your sign from your birth date. Note it is for fun only and has no scientific basis.
How many days old am I?
The result panel shows your total days lived alongside years, months and days. For example, someone born 15 March 1995 is 11,524 days old on 2 October 2026 — about 276,576 hours. The statistics table also breaks the same span into total months, total weeks and total hours.
