How it works

1

Paste the mess

Copy text straight out of a PDF — mid-sentence line breaks, hyphens, uneven gaps and all — and paste it into the box on the left. Nothing is uploaded; it never leaves your browser.

2

Choose your fixes

Tick the cleanups you want: join wrapped lines into sentences, undo end-of-line hyphenation, keep real paragraphs, and normalize whitespace. Everything runs live as you type.

3

Copy or download

Grab the cleaned result with one tap, or download it as a plain .txt file. Check the before/after line counts to see exactly how much tidying happened.

Frequently asked questions

PDFs store text by its position on the page, not as sentences. When you copy, each visual line comes back as a hard line break, and words split across lines keep their hyphens. PasteFix reverses exactly that.
No. Blank lines are treated as real paragraph breaks and protected. Only single line breaks (wrapped lines) are joined. If your text has no blank lines, everything is joined into one flowing block.
Never. All cleaning happens in JavaScript on your own device. You can use it on confidential documents and even go offline afterwards — it keeps working.
Only hyphens sitting at the end of a line that split a word across two lines (like "brok-en"). Real hyphens in the middle of a line, such as in "well-known", are left untouched.
Partly. PasteFix cleans whatever text order your PDF reader produced — but two-column articles often paste with the columns interleaved line by line (“a line from column one, a line from column two”), and no cleaner can untangle that automatically. For two-column PDFs, select and copy one column at a time, then clean each paste separately. Single-column documents clean up near-perfectly.
Yes — the original pasted text stays in the input box, so you can tweak the options and re-run as many times as you like. Nothing is overwritten until you copy the result. If a particular option (like hyphenation removal) causes trouble on a tricky paste, turn just that one off and clean again.

Worked example: cleaning a copied research paper

You copy three paragraphs from a PDF journal article and paste them into your notes: every line ends mid-sentence, words are split like “under-” and “stand,” and there are page numbers and running headers scattered through. Paste the mess into PasteFix, leave the defaults on, and hit clean. Wrapped lines rejoin into real paragraphs, hyphenated words fuse back together (“understand”), and the stray “Journal of Examples 47” header lines can be stripped.

What took five minutes of manual joining now takes five seconds, and the cleaned text is ready to quote or summarize. For a 20-page chapter, clean it in two or three chunks — smaller pastes let you eyeball each result and catch the rare spot where a real line break (like a list item) should have been kept.

Limitations

PasteFix works on the text you paste — it cannot reach back into the PDF for layout it never received. Tables and multi-column layouts often paste as jumbled reading order, and no text cleaner can reliably reconstruct which cell belonged where; those need manual fixing.

The hyphenation remover is conservative by design: it only joins a hyphen at a line break when the fused word looks like a real word. Unusual proper nouns or technical terms may stay split — a quick scan of the output catches them. And if your PDF’s text layer is scanned images rather than real text, copy-paste gives you nothing to clean; that needs OCR first.
