WhatsApp Chat to PDF

Turn a WhatsApp chat export into a beautiful printable keepsake — filter dates, style it, print or save as PDF.

100% private — your files never leave your device

Make your chat book

Drop your WhatsApp .txt export here or click to browse — everything happens on your device, nothing is uploaded

Get started
Export a chat from WhatsApp (open the chat, tap the name, Export chat, Without media), drop the .txt file above — or try the sample chat.

How it works

1

Export the chat

Open the WhatsApp chat on your phone, tap the name at the top, choose Export chat and pick "Without media" to get a .txt file.

2

Style your book

Drop the file here, give your book a title, type your name so your messages align right, and pick a date range to include.

3

Print or save as PDF

Preview the chat as familiar chat bubbles, then hit Print / Save as PDF and choose "Save as PDF" in the print dialog.

How to Make Your Chat Book

Export your chat (“Export chat” → “Without media”), then drop the .txt file here. Type your name exactly as it appears in the export into the “My name” field and click “Update preview” — your messages jump to the right side in green bubbles, just like the app. Filter by date range to keep only the months you want, choose whether to keep “<Media omitted>” placeholders, then click “Print / Save as PDF” and pick “Save as PDF” as the destination. The page is formatted so only the chat book prints — no buttons, no clutter.

How the Book Is Built

The renderer parses iPhone, Android, and US 12-hour formats, groups messages by day with date headers, and lays them out as chat bubbles in a print stylesheet tuned for US Letter and A4. Long chats paginate naturally; day headers keep you oriented as the pages turn. Everything renders in your browser — the PDF is produced by your own print dialog, so the file never touches a server.

Worked Example

A couple wants a keepsake of their first year of dating: 8,214 messages from January to December. They export without media, set the date filter to the full year, type both names for correct bubble alignment, and save as PDF. The result is a 96-page book — about 85 messages per page — with day headers, timestamps, and emoji intact. Printed double-sided at a local print shop, it becomes a birthday gift for under $15.

Limitations

“Without media” exports cannot include the actual photos — you get “<Media omitted>” placeholders (export “With media” and insert photos manually if you want them in). Very long chats produce very long PDFs; filter by date to keep the book manageable. Custom fonts and colors are not adjustable — the book uses a clean, readable default designed for print. And message edits or deletions made after export will not appear; export fresh for the final version.

A chat archive is a document; a podcast is a publication — the two meet more often than you'd expect. When a recorded conversation becomes an episode, the Podcast Cover Maker designs the spec-correct 3000×3000 artwork, and if the export pasted into your notes arrives with broken formatting, PasteFix cleans pasted text back to sanity.

Frequently asked questions

No. Your export is rendered into a preview entirely inside your browser. When you print or save as PDF, that happens on your own device too. Nothing is uploaded, stored or tracked at any stage, so even a private family chat stays completely private from start to finish.
Click "Print / Save as PDF", and in the print dialog change the destination to "Save as PDF" (Chrome, Edge) or click the PDF button (Safari, Firefox). The page is already formatted so only the chat book prints. Use the same dialog to pick Letter or A4 and turn on background graphics if your browser asks.
Type your name exactly as it appears in the chat export into the "My name" field, then click "Update preview". Your messages will move to the right side with the green bubble. If nothing moves, check for extra spaces or a changed display name — the match has to be character-for-character.
"Without media" exports contain "<Media omitted>" placeholders where photos were. You can keep them in the book as placeholders or untick the box to skip them. To include actual photos, export "With media" and add them manually — the .txt alone never contains images.
iPhone ([12/03/2024, 14:22:31] Name: message), Android (12/03/2024, 14:22 - Name: message) and US 12-hour (3/12/2024, 2:22 PM - Name: message) exports all work, in either day/month order. The parser recognizes the pattern from the first lines automatically, so there is nothing to configure before you print.
Yes — open the exported .txt in any text editor and delete the lines you don’t want, then drop the edited file here. The parser skips nothing else, so day headers and bubble alignment stay correct. Save a copy of the original first, so you can restore anything you removed by mistake.
The layout is tuned for US Letter and A4 — both work. For a keepsake book, print double-sided on Letter, or send the PDF to a print shop and ask for booklet printing. Margins and bubble widths are already set for home printers, so you should not need to adjust scaling before printing.
Yes. The parser reads timestamps and sender names, which are language-independent. Right-to-left languages (Arabic, Hebrew) render correctly in the browser preview and in the saved PDF. Long names and emoji in sender names also survive intact, so a multilingual family or work chat prints exactly as it reads on your phone.
