Prompt tips

How it works

1

Write your prompt

Describe the image in plain English — what it shows, where, and how it should feel. Add a style preset with one tap.

2

Choose size and seed

Pick square for posts, landscape for banners or portrait for stories. The seed locks the result: same prompt plus same seed gives the same image.

3

Generate and download

Press Generate, wait a few seconds, then download the PNG to your device. Retry free if the service is busy.

Prompt engineering basics: getting images you actually like

Good prompts are specific prompts. "A dog" gives you a generic stock-photo dog; "a golden retriever puppy sitting in a field of sunflowers, golden hour light, shallow depth of field, photorealistic" gives you something worth downloading. Build your prompt in layers: start with the subject, add the setting, then the lighting, then the mood, and finally the style. Each layer narrows what the model invents, which means fewer surprises and fewer retries.

Style words carry enormous weight. Terms like "photorealistic", "cinematic lighting", "oil painting", "anime style" or "3D render" steer the whole look of the image, so use the preset buttons as a starting point and extend them by hand. Lighting and camera words — "soft studio light", "sunset glow", "macro shot", "wide angle", "aerial view" — are the cheapest way to make a result look professional. If an image comes out flat, adding one lighting phrase usually fixes it.

Aspect ratio changes composition more than most beginners expect. Square (1:1) suits avatars, product shots and social posts; landscape 16:9 is the natural choice for banners, thumbnails and desktop wallpapers; portrait 9:16 fits phone stories and reels. The model frames the scene differently for each ratio, so pick the size before you refine the prompt — a composition that works in landscape can feel cramped when cropped to a story.

On usage: images you generate here are yours to use, including in commercial projects like blog posts, thumbnails, ads or product mockups. That said, the generation is handled by a free third-party service with its own terms, so if you are producing work for a client or a major campaign, skim the service's current terms once for peace of mind. A practical note: AI images are wonderful for drafts, concepts and content — for logos and trademarks, where originality and legal distinctiveness matter, hire a designer instead. And never use generated faces of real-looking people in misleading contexts; the tool is for creativity, not deception.

Text models have their own tells, just like image models. For the written side of a content workflow, the AI Tell Highlighter flags the stock phrases and structures that make AI-generated copy sound AI-generated.

Frequently asked questions

Is this AI image generator really free with no signup?
Yes. It runs on a free third-party image API, so you can generate and download images with no account, no credit card and no watermark.
Can I use the generated images commercially?
Images you generate are yours to use, including for commercial projects. If you need legal certainty for client work, check the third-party service's current terms.
How do I write a good image prompt?
Describe the subject, setting, lighting and mood in detail, then apply a style preset. Specific prompts with lighting and camera words produce much better images than vague ones.
Why did my image fail to generate?
The free API can be slow or rate-limited at busy times. Wait a moment and press Retry — or retry with a new seed, which produces a fresh result.
Is my prompt private?
Prompts are sent to the free third-party image service so it can create the picture. No account is needed and nothing is stored by ToolNest.
