Media Metadata Scrubber

Strip GPS, EXIF and hidden metadata from photos and videos in one click — batch processed, downloaded as a ZIP.

100% private — your files never leave your device

Drop files to inspect and scrub

Photos (JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF) and videos (MP4, MOV). Files are identified by their actual content, not the extension — and everything happens on your device.

Drop photos or videos here, or click to browse Multiple files at once. Max 300MB per file. Never uploaded — scrubbed in your browser.

Add files to begin
Every photo from your phone carries hidden data — location, device, date taken. See exactly what yours carry, then strip it in one click.

How it works

1

Drop your files

Add photos or videos. Each file is identified by its real format (checked by file signature, not the extension) and scanned for metadata — EXIF, GPS coordinates, IPTC captions, XMP, color profiles, video container tags.

2

See the before

Every file gets a report of exactly what was found: the GPS coordinates, the camera model, the date taken. No vague "metadata removed" claims — you see the fields.

3

Scrub and download

One click strips the metadata losslessly — no re-encoding, no quality loss. The cleaned file is re-scanned to verify zero metadata remains, then download individually or as one ZIP.

What exactly is removed, per format

Most "metadata remover" tools either upload your files to a server (a privacy contradiction) or give you a vague "cleaned!" message with no proof. This one does neither: it works on the file's real binary structure, shows you every field it found, removes it, then re-scans the output to prove it is gone.

FormatWhat is removedQuality impact
JPEGAll metadata segments: EXIF (camera, date, GPS), XMP, IPTC/Photoshop data, ICC color profiles, comments. Only the harmless JFIF identifier is kept.None — pixel data untouched
PNGText chunks (tEXt/iTXt/zTXt), eXIf blocks, ICC profiles. Image chunks kept intact.None — lossless
WebPEXIF, XMP and ICC chunks; the container flags are corrected to match.None — lossless
GIFComment and application extensions (where XMP hides). Animation frames kept.None — animation preserved
MP4 / MOVContainer metadata boxes: meta, udta (user data), XMP, and Apple location data. Audio/video streams copied verbatim.None — no re-encoding
WebM / MKVNot handled. The file is passed through unchanged and the report says so honestly.—

The honest edge case: video metadata occasionally lives in exotic vendor-proprietary boxes outside the standard layout. The report lists every box that was removed — and anything unrecognized is deliberately left untouched rather than risk breaking the file. For images, the post-scrub re-scan confirms zero metadata fields remain.

Scrubbing metadata is the invisible half of publishing a photo; the visible half is resolution. The guide to upscaling an image with AI covers enlarging for print honestly, and for video evidence the Timestamp Burner adds the date-and-time overlay that makes footage presentable.

Frequently asked questions

No. The tool removes metadata segments (EXIF, IPTC, XMP, GPS, color profiles, comments) while leaving the actual pixel data byte-for-byte identical. JPEG, PNG, GIF and WebP files are cleaned losslessly — there is no re-encoding and no quality loss.
No. For MP4 and MOV files only the container metadata boxes (meta, udta, XMP, Apple location data) are removed. The audio and video streams are copied untouched with no re-encoding, so the file plays identically and keeps its full quality.
Photos: JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF are fully supported. Video: MP4 and MOV container metadata is removed. WebM and MKV containers are not handled — those files are passed through unchanged and the tool tells you so honestly instead of pretending.
Never. Files are read into your browser's memory, analyzed and cleaned on your device, and the ZIP download is assembled locally. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or sent to any server — closing the tab wipes everything.
For images, yes for the listed types: EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, ICC profiles and comments are removed, and the tool re-scans the cleaned file to verify zero metadata fields remain. For video, all standard container metadata boxes are removed; exotic vendor-proprietary boxes outside the standard layout may theoretically survive, and the report tells you exactly what was and was not removed.
