How it works
Pick a background
Choose one of five backgrounds drawn live in your browser — Sunset Gradient, Starry Night, Ocean Wave, Bold Red or Comic Burst. Each is original art, so there are no copyright issues.
Write your caption
Type your top and bottom text. The preview updates instantly — toggle ALL CAPS, adjust the text size slider, or switch between white, black and yellow text to nail the classic look.
Download the PNG
Hit "Download PNG" for a crisp 600 x 600 image, ready to post anywhere. Nothing is uploaded anywhere — the file is generated on your device.
Meme text best practices
The funniest memes are usually the shortest ones. Aim for a setup of under ten words on top and a punchline of under ten words on the bottom. Readers scroll fast, and if the joke takes more than two seconds to parse, most people will skip past it. Cut every word that is not doing work — "me" and "my" are almost always implied.
The classic setup-punchline structure
Top text sets up the situation; bottom text delivers the twist. The gap between the two is where the laugh lives. A strong pattern is expectation versus reality: "MY PLANS FOR THE WEEKEND" on top, "SLEEP. THAT IS THE PLAN." on the bottom. Contrast, exaggeration and relatable pain ("nobody:", "me:") remain the most reliable formats because they take one glance to understand.
Readability comes first
Keep ALL CAPS on for the authentic look — it reads better at small sizes on phone screens. White text with the automatic black outline works on every background; switch to black text with a white outline only on bright backgrounds, and use yellow sparingly for emphasis on a single word. If your caption wraps to three or more lines, shrink the font with the slider rather than shrinking the joke: dense blocks of text kill the comedic timing.
Where to share for maximum reach
The 600 x 600 square format works natively on Instagram feeds, X, Facebook, Discord and group chats. For Instagram, post as a single image or as the first slide of a carousel with context slides after it. On X, a meme posted as a reply to a trending topic can outperform an original post. Watermarks from other apps are a reach killer on TikTok and Instagram Reels, which is one more reason a clean, watermark-free PNG from this generator is the better starting point for your next viral post.
Guides for This Tool
The meme is finished; the channel it feeds might need the heavier tools. The Timestamp Burner overlays running timecode on dashcam and CCTV-style clips, and the AI image upscaling guide rescues the low-resolution source image your next template depends on.
