How it works

1

Export the chat

Open any WhatsApp chat, tap the name at the top, choose Export chat and pick "Without media" to get a .txt file.

2

Get your story cards

Drop the file here and ToolNest crunches the numbers on your device — most messages, longest streak, night owl, emoji champion and more.

3

Share your favorites

Swipe through the cards and download any award as a shareable image to send back to the group.

How WhatsApp Wrapped Works

Drop in a WhatsApp chat export (.txt — “Export chat” → “Without media”). The page parses every message locally and computes the awards: message counts, day streaks, late-night activity, emoji usage, back-to-back runs, and average message length. Each award becomes a 1080 × 1350 story card with a headline, the winner, and a one-line description — rendered on a canvas in your browser and downloadable as a PNG, ready to share anywhere.

The Awards, Explained

Most Messages goes to the chattiest sender; Longest Streak rewards consecutive days with at least one message. Night Owl counts messages between midnight and 5 AM; Early Bird covers 5–8 AM. Emoji Champion is pure volume; Double Texter measures the longest run of back-to-back messages from one person; Wordiest uses average message length. Group chats make every award a contest; in one-to-one chats the awards simply go to whoever earned them.

Worked Example

A family group of five exports their year: 21,307 messages. Dad takes Most Messages (6,940) and Night Owl (412 messages after midnight — the teens are outraged). The Longest Streak is 89 days through the holidays. Mom is Emoji Champion with 1,203 emojis, led by ❤️. The Double Texter record: 34 back-to-back messages from the youngest during a live sports final. Each card downloads as a crisp 1080 × 1350 PNG for the family group chat.

Limitations

Awards are only as complete as your export — if someone changed phones mid-year and lost history, their totals will be short. Media-heavy chats undercount activity since photos become “<Media omitted>” placeholders. The year boundary follows your export’s date range, not the calendar, so export the full year for a true “wrapped”. And like all stats here, everything is computed on your device — share the cards, not the chat file.

A year of chats makes a good story and a long drive down memory lane. If the group is planning the reunion trip to go with it, the fuel cost guide turns miles and MPG into a per-person split everyone can agree on before anyone fills a tank.

Frequently asked questions

No. The export is parsed and the awards are computed by JavaScript in your browser. Nothing ever leaves your device — the downloaded card images are rendered locally too. You can even load the page, disconnect from the internet, and generate your whole Wrapped offline with the same results.
Most Messages, Longest Streak, Night Owl (most messages between midnight and 5 AM), Emoji Champion, Double Texter (longest run of back-to-back messages), Wordiest (longest average message) and Early Bird (most messages between 5 and 9 AM). Each card names its winner and the number behind the title.
Both. Group chats make the awards more fun, but one-to-one chats work fine — the awards simply go to whichever of you earned them. In a two-person chat every title is a head-to-head contest between you and the other person, which makes the results just as shareable and twice as personal.
A 1080 × 1350 PNG of the current award card — the same headline, winner and description you see on screen — ready to share on any app. The portrait size is chosen to fill a phone screen nicely in chats and stories, and the file is generated on your device when you tap download.
iPhone ([12/03/2024, 14:22:31] Name: message), Android (12/03/2024, 14:22 - Name: message) and US 12-hour (3/12/2024, 2:22 PM - Name: message) exports all work, in either day/month order. The tool detects the pattern automatically from the first lines, so you never need to choose a format manually.
Yes — whatever date range is in your export is what gets analyzed. Export a single month for a “month in review”, or the full year for the classic Wrapped. The cards describe the range they actually cover. WhatsApp exports whatever the chat still holds, so very old messages may depend on your backup history.
The usual cause is a name change: if “Mom” became “Mom ❤️” mid-year, those are counted as two senders. Export formats also sometimes split names with special characters. Check the sender list for duplicates. Merging is not automatic, because the tool cannot know two similar names belong to the same person.
The cards use a fixed festive design so they look consistent when shared. If you want custom styling, download the PNG and add your own caption in any photo editor or stories app. The fixed layout also means every card from the same chat matches, which looks better when you post several awards together.
