How it works

1

Create your signature

Draw with your mouse or finger, type your name in a signature style, or upload a transparent PNG of your handwritten signature. It stays ready for every document.

2

Place it on the PDF

Pick a page from the strip, then click exactly where the signature belongs. Drag to nudge it into place and resize with the slider until it looks right.

3

Download the signed PDF

Your signature is embedded directly into the PDF file — no watermark, no account, no limits. The document never leaves your device.

Signing, step by step

1. Open your PDF — it renders page by page, entirely on your device. 2. Create your signature once: draw it with mouse or finger, type your name in a script style, or upload a transparent PNG of your real handwritten signature. 3. Place it: pick the page from the strip, click exactly where the signature belongs, drag to nudge it into place and resize with the slider. 4. Add the date or your initials the same way. 5. Download — the signature is flattened directly into the PDF.

Worked example

A 3-page freelance agreement needs two signatures and a date. Upload: 2 seconds. Signature drawn once: 20 seconds. Placed on pages 2 and 3 with the date added: about 40 seconds. Download: a signed 1.8 MB PDF with no watermark. Total time: under 90 seconds. On DocuSign’s free tier the same job would consume 1 of 3 monthly documents — here it is unlimited.

Limitations

These are electronic signature images embedded in the PDF — valid for most everyday agreements under laws like the US ESIGN Act, but not certificate-based digital signatures, so documents requiring notarization need a qualified service. There is no multi-signer workflow, no signer authentication and no audit trail. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before opening.

Signed documents get emailed, and emailed documents have size limits. If the file is too heavy to send, our guide explains how to compress a PDF first.

Signed paperwork usually has two more stops. It gets archived with the rest of the household record — the Home Inventory keeps that catalogue in one place — and it gets emailed, which is where the PDF compressor earns its keep, shrinking a scan under the attachment limit without uploading it anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from DocuSign?
DocuSign charges $10–40/month and its free tier stops after 3 documents. This tool does the core job — putting your signature on a PDF — free and unlimited, entirely in your browser. What it skips is the enterprise layer: audit trails, signer authentication and certificate-based digital signatures.
Are electronic signatures legally valid?
In most countries, yes — the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS regulation both recognize electronic signatures for the vast majority of agreements: employment contracts, freelance agreements, NDAs, rental forms. A few document types (wills, some property transfers) may need stronger forms.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
Never. The PDF is opened, rendered and re-saved by JavaScript running in your own browser tab (pdf-lib and pdf.js, both MIT-licensed). Close the tab and nothing remains — there is no server to leak your contracts.
Can I sign multiple pages?
Yes. Place the signature on as many pages as you like — select each page from the strip and click where it should go. Every placement is embedded into the final downloaded PDF.
What if my PDF is password protected?
Password-protected PDFs can't be opened in the browser for security reasons. Remove the password in your PDF reader first (File → Save without password), then sign it here.
Can the other party verify my signature?
They see your signature image in the PDF, exactly like a signed-and-scanned document. There is no cryptographic certificate behind it, so for high-stakes contracts use a qualified signing service.
Does it work with multi-page PDFs?
Yes. Pick any page from the strip and place signatures, dates or initials on as many pages as the document needs.
What if my PDF is password-protected?
Unlock it first — in Preview, Adobe Reader or a similar app — then upload. Browsers cannot open encrypted PDFs for editing.
