Overshare Checker
Catch the private details hiding in your post before the internet sees them. Paste, scan, redact, post.
Scan your text before you publish
Paste the caption, listing, bio, message, or email draft you are about to send. The scan runs 100% in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored.
Paste something to begin
About to post a for-sale listing, a life update, or a job application? Give it a 10-second privacy scan first.
How it works
Paste your draft
Drop in the caption, marketplace listing, dating bio, job application, or message you are about to publish. It never leaves your browser — the scan is pure pattern matching in memory.
Review each finding
Every match is shown in context with a plain-English explanation of why it matters and a severity level — high for card numbers, SSNs, keys and addresses; medium for emails, phones and birth dates.
Redact and copy
Redact findings one by one or all at once, then copy the clean version straight to your clipboard and paste it wherever you were posting.
Why a ten-second scan is worth it
Most oversharing is not careless — it is rushed. A screenshot of a win posted with an order number visible. A for-sale listing that includes the shipping label. A frustrated reply that names a kid's school. Each detail looks harmless on its own. Together, they are a starter kit for identity theft: a full name plus a birth date plus a phone number is often enough to reset passwords, open accounts, or convincingly impersonate you to your own contacts.
What the scan checks: email addresses, phone numbers, US Social Security numbers, credit and debit card numbers (verified with a real Luhn checksum, so random digit strings are not flagged), API keys and leaked secrets — OpenAI/Stripe-style keys, AWS, GitHub, Slack, Google, npm, private key blocks, and plain-text password = hunter2 assignments — plus IBAN bank account numbers (mod-97 validated), street addresses, and dates of birth.
What it honestly cannot do: names have no pattern, so the scanner cannot tell your name from an ordinary word. It cannot catch nicknames, deliberately disguised text (j0hn d03), or photos of documents. Think of it as a spell-checker for privacy: it catches the obvious slips, and you still give the final draft a human read. A clean scan is a good sign, not a guarantee — pair it with locked-down account settings (see our Social Privacy Checkup) for the full safety stack.
What you share is one half of exposure; how your accounts are locked is the other. Our strong-password guide covers building passwords that resist guessing and reuse attacks.
Oversharing is a location leak with good intentions. The moving-in equivalent is the walkthrough you post before the locks change — the Move-In Inspection Checklist documents a property's condition room by room instead, evidence first, audience later.
Documents overshare too. Before a contract, a payslip or a scanned form goes to a group chat or a public inbox, shrink it with the PDF compressor — it runs entirely in your browser, so the file you are protecting never gets uploaded to a stranger's server in the name of making it smaller.
